On February 25, 1973 the congregation decided to build a separate educational unit at a cost of $100,000. On April 8 groundbreaking ceremonies were held with three of Salem’s older members turning the ground on a rainy Sunday.
They were Mrs. Martha Matter and Mrs. Hannah Hoover, members; and Miss Ella Fisher, a non-member who attended over 18 years. The date stone was laid on September 9, along with the placing of the copper box of mementos.
The building was dedicated on October 28, 1973, with a final debt of approximately $40,000.
In early 2024, the property committee committed hundreds of volunteer man-hours to restoring the building after it had been leased as a daycare for over a decade. All classrooms and meeting rooms were freshly painted after wall and flooring repairs were made, including staining and finishing of wooden cabinetry in the council meeting room and nursery. Plumbing, electrical, and Wi-Fi upgrades were made to the space, including the pastor’s study and office receiving updated air-conditioning.
