What we believe…

Our mission statement at Salem Lutheran Church…

A family of believers called by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to preach Christ Crucified through liturgy, life, and faithfulness; and to care for our neighbors through the joyful spreading of the Gospel.

We believe in and worship the blessed and Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe and trust in Jesus the Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, who has died for our sins and will raise us unto eternal life. We subscribe to and confess the Apostle’s, Nicene, and Athenasian Creeds.

The Holy Scriptures are the inspired, inerrant Word of God. They are the norma normans, the absolute norm of faithfulness. In their fullness – Old Testament, New Testament, and Deuterocanonical – they express the loving intent of the Holy Trinity for all creation.

Holy Baptism is the Sacrament by which the Holy Spirit unites us with the Body of Christ. It is necessary for salvation and is offered to all people. Certain holy days are set apart for celebration of Holy Baptism. Anyone desiring to be Baptized should contact Pastor Campbell.

Holy Communion is celebrated at all Services. The Lutheran Church teaches that the true body and blood of Jesus Christ are really present in the Supper of our Lord under the form of bread and wine and are there distributed and received.(Augsburg Confession, Article X)   All Baptized Christians who trust in the real presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of Holy Communion are invited to receive the Sacrament. Those persons not prepared to receive the Sacrament may still come forward to receive a blessing.

Holy Absolution is the Sacrament by which personal assurance of the Lord’s forgiveness of our sins is obtained. Repentant Christians may also make arrangements with the pastor throughout the year to receive this Sacrament.

We have great appreciation for the beauty and instruction provided by the historic liturgy of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church. We pray it according to the form found in the Lutheran Book of Worship.

Daily prayer and reading of Holy Scripture are essential to the life of the Christian. Members are encouraged towards constant growth in these two disciplines.
